Madalyn J. Goolsby has authored an article for the Fall 2023 edition of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock Law Review. Her article “Filling the Gap: The Need for Legislative Action to Protect the Right to Record Police in the Age of Citizen Journalism,” argues that cities and states should follow recently enacted legislation in New York City that recognizes a right to record police in their official duties, establishes a private right of action to address officers unlawfully interfering with that right, and provides the opportunity to institute clearer standards for both citizens and law enforcement on how to lawfully record police. You can read Maddy’s article here.
Maddy is a third-year law student at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law and upon graduation will serve as a law clerk for the Hon. Lavenski R. Smith of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit before joining Quattlebaum, Grooms & Tull as a litigation associate.
